FAQ page image.jpeg
What is hand therapy?

A hand therapist is a registered occupational or physical therapist who specializes in the rehabilitation of patients with conditions affecting the hand and upper limbs. A hand therapist is enabled to help patients return to a productive lifestyle following an injury or condition and is able to evaluate and identify problems affecting the upper limbs. A hand therapist can provide exercises, preventative care, aids to daily living, and ergonomic modifications. A hand therapist often works closely with surgeons to plan and implement post-operative care in order to help improve patients' recovery following surgery.

What does a typical session look like?

The first session typically lasts an hour and will consist of a comprehensive evaluation. The first session may include education regarding your condition, a home exercise program, manual therapy, and/or therapeutic exercises if time permits. You and your therapist will work together to develop a treatment plan that is customized to your specific needs and recovery.

The following sessions will range from 45 minutes to an hour, depending on what is best for your recovery and your schedule.

Do you make custom splints/orthoses?

Yes, our staff of therapists have expertise in fabricating splints/orthoses customized to each patient. Splints are made using low temperature thermoplastic material and are molded to the patient's injured body part. Fabricating splints usually takes between 15-45 minutes depending on the complexity of the splint. Your therapists will provide you with a splint wear and care schedule and you will leave with your splint the same day.
